this is not too far from our apartment, just a 10-minute drive or something. its called the breakheart reservation and we sometimes go there for a walk. its really pretty there, in any season and quite big. there are many trails, and you can easily spend hours hiking.
once it was a native american camp site, but early european settlers cut down the original pine trees for crops and to prevent surprise attacks from the native americans. during the civil war it was used as a training field for soldiers, who found the place very remote and dull. they named it camp breakheart hill (still cannot figure out why exactly that name, but well...)

Beautiful picture so peacefully. In contrast to the story what happened here, with wars and killing.
Have you hiked in the Fells yet? It's even clodser to home. There's an entrance on the other side of the commuter rail track (behind the new apartments). There's a small waterfall.
I have never heard of this place before. You caught a wonderful reflection image with richly saturated blues!
@manon; yes, we have been to the fells several times but i actually like the breakheart better. also because its next to route 1, for some of our shopping needs!! :) but its only thanks to you that we discovered breakheart!!

Have you shown this before? I'm wondering if this is one of those spots that doesn't allow swimming? Whatever, it is simply beautiful. I love the reflections in this shot.
yes, i have shown pictures of this place before, but not sure it was about swimming! there is only very limited swimming at only one spot, and... worst of all, you can only go so far (until your knees or so).
aah,i remember, i think the other swimming place with many restrictions is walden pond.
