Sexy cyclist

saw this girl last week at the boston common (there were lots of interesting people there that day!), and she perfectly illustrates a news story over a month old by now... in may, a dutch bicycle company manager was cycling in new york, in a miniskirt. then she was stopped by a cop, who wanted her ID and told her that she was not supposed to ride around like that. she was told that her outfit was very disturbing and dangerous, as it could distract cars. she then told him that she was not aware of any dresscode, and that biking with a skirt is perfectly normal in the netherlands. the cop responded: "I decide what's a dangerous situation".... in the end she didnt get a ticket, but.. next time; she'd better wear pants!!
only later, back home, she posted this pic on facebook and then media saw it and several articles appeared, both in the us and in the netherlands. again somewhat later it was questioned whether the story was true; perhaps it was a marketing stunt to sell more bikes?! she didnt get the name of the cop, and also no ticket. well... i can perfectly believe that something like this happens, i heard several weird stories about us cops showing off their power like this already... like this story, for example, or this one..

that back freaks me the heck out. I can't see why anyone would want to ride a bike with a miniskirt unless they were looking for attention, but to each their own.

@ Sequim: I enjoy wearing skirts and enjoy wearing bikes. So it is kind of inhibiting not to be able to wear a skirt while biking. Anyway now in the US I only drive....

i also get onto my bike with whatever i am wearing, and i think thats normal. sometimes im annoyed as i have to keep my skirt down, but other than that.. i never choose my clothes according to my bike. here in the us, i miss my bike sooooo much!!
in the netherlands there even is this tradition of going to your own wedding by bike!
in the netherlands you literally do everything by bike; just how many americans do everything by car...

I'd follow that!

just because the COP was distracted by the minimal chance of spotting some underwear (must have been a real thrill for him)....

Confusing - did police have anything to do with the woman in this photograph?

If the issue with the bicyclist and the new york cop may have been a marketing stunt and this is just some random person biking around boston, not being disturbed by the police, this photo does not illustrate anything having to do with weird stories about cops showing off their powers.

anonymous: why do you want to give your opinion but do not want to reveal your identity?
you dont have to read stories you consider weird. i also never buy tabloids.
but most importantly, i do not get your point.

this photo DOES illustrate EXACTLY that: if all cops were like the one in NYC, then this sexy girl would be in trouble. thats the point. Some people however seem to enter this blog with malicious intent or at least cynicism.

CaT said...

i do not necessarily think its malicious.
cynicism can be interesting, though, but i would call it ignorance...

Ha ha, That would never happen in Sweden. And if it does I will emigrate!
