The inflatable...

do you see it? that tiny blue inflatable tire? not allowed in the water. not allowed!! never mind that the water (until the red thingies) is not deep at all.... or that the mother was with the child in the water while she was wearing it (do you wear an inflatable tire? i dont know...). i thought it was really so sad! here i really liked the 2 girls (twins?) with their colorful swim caps... placed above their ears... :)
so, thats the lake we went to yesterday. its called walden pond (maybe you know it from the writer thoreau, who lived on the shore of this pond for a while, in 1845, and wrote about it at length). as mentioned, we swam across it. while standing on the beach (as you can see), it doesnt seem far at all! and while swimming, you think each time while looking up; ah, almost there. and then you still arent... but i really liked swimming it, i think i never did something like that before! (except for last weekend, when i swam it for the first time, haha).

So this is Henry David's Walden Pond! For some reason I envisioned it quite smaller.

Yes, this is really sad, couldn't she "pootjebaden" too? A child has to play with sand and water though?
Were they afraid she would vanish at the horizon in an inflatable?

I hope you didn't forget to stretch after all that swimming!

I instantly recognized this place as I scrolled down the photo. My friends and I cross Walden at least twice a week. Usually early in the morning, but in the early evening it's also very nice. We break a few rules ourselves - they don't want you swimming through the middle to get to the other side - but we do. We also jumped in this past New Years Day and they really weren't too happy about that either.

By the way, it's 100 feet deep at one point. Once I looked down and there were 3 huge koi fish beneath me and another time, a turtle - yikes. I love it there.

how sad that she couldn't use her inflatable. i have heard of this rule before and is seems a bit odd - she was playing not trying not to drown.

and I also expected this pond to look smaller.

I am surprised at the no-tube rule. Even though I lived in Eastern Massachusetts for more than 35 years, I never visited Walden Pond. Maybe I should take a little trip, to cross it off my bucket list.

americans wear those things on the inside.

@antjas!! aahhh, so they dont allow crossing through the middle! thats exactly what i did now twice, as i somehow feel its the most logic (and fun) thing to do. but i did notice that hardly anyone was doing that. and especially the first time, when i did it alone, each time i somehow was expecting someone telling me what i was doing was wrong, although i didnt think i was doing something wrong. but apparently i did!
why wouldnt you be allowed to cross in the middle?
i think i would be scared a bit seeing a turtle! i cape cod on july 4th i saw a huge huge fish swimming, and that scared me, hahahaha. i try not to think of whats down below.

i would like to go there more often, but its a half hour drive, and then 5 dollar parking. but i guess we will do it every now and then, now that we've discovered it, i really like it too!

@stefan; haha, no we didnt do stretching... :) there was an old man who did, and i guess he was not aware that his swimming trunks were actually entirely transparant (at least from behind).

and kate, yes the pond is quite big, but thoreau's house was extremely tiny!! just big enough for a bed and 3 chairs and i guess a stove.

Back in 1995, we crossed a lake by swimming from one side to the other and back. Do you remember this? Camping in Germany?

So, that's Walden Pond! I pictured it much smaller, more wooded, and certainly no beach filled with RULES!

You probably should mask out the little girl's face here. Keep her anonymous so the inner tube police don't come and get her. After all, there's the evidence!

Ha,ha,ha,the comment of Tim is so funny! They should forbid that too.
