Cloud factory

as you can see, some factories generating lots of "clouds"..... this is in page, arizona. took me some googling (typing page & factory led me to the cheesecake factory), but this is the "navajo generating station". its a coal-fired powerplant in the navajo indian reservation, providing electrical power to people in arizona, nevada and california. emission of the plant actually affects visibility in the grand canyon and other national parks in the area, according to wikipedia! (you can read all that, and more, here)

At least it is white smoke. I always feel a bit suspicious to see such factories with lots of smoke. You never know if it allright what is coming out. Doesn't belong in the beautiful landscape anyway.

I love getting shots of the belching smoke clouds from the steel mills in my city - but they look like they belong, whereas these are unexpected in this landscape!

This is unfortunate. If you would see how some people live on the Navajo reservation you'd see the quandary of the need for economic development. As far as I know they don't have casinos, which rake in cash for other tribes. The reservation is isolated and marginalized. It's hard to see a lot of options and I wish this wasn't one of them.
